BERKELEY, Calif. - A 16-year-old boy was arrested after recruiting others to participate in a mass college shooting that might have included a bombing at Berkeley High Faculty, police say. 

The teenager was arrested Monday, when he turned himself in to police, Berkeley Police Division said in a press launch. Monday was Memorial Day and there was no college that day. 

The boy was arrested on suspicion of possessing harmful system materials and threatening to commit against the law which can result in dying or great bodily injury.

Police said they obtained a tip on Saturday that the boy was recruiting others in plans of a shooting that included explosives. Following the tip, police obtained and executed a search warrant for a residence. 

Police didn't say if the teenager was a student at Berkeley Excessive School.

Upon executing the search warrant, police said they discovered elements to explosives and assault rifles, a number of knives, and digital items that could be used to create extra weapons. 

At that time, a warrant was obtained for the teen's arrest.

"Faculty safety remains a excessive priority for the department," police mentioned in a statement. 

Details on whom the teenager was making an attempt to recruit were not disclosed. Police mentioned this case remains below investigation. 

Berkeley Unified Supt. Brent Stephens informed the school's community that the district was in shut contact with police during this investigation. 

After police confiscated the teen's weapon components, the district relied on police expertise to evaluate any potential ongoing danger to its faculties. The district communicated with police on the student's whereabouts. 

"As added precautions during this era, we alerted our administrative and security workers about this investigation and, as is our standard apply, maintained shut contact with our BPD College Useful resource Officer on the Berkeley Excessive Faculty campus," Stephens wrote. "Throughout the investigation period, we have been assured that this individual did not pose an immediate menace to the Berkeley High College community."

The district is conducting their own investigation on this matter. 

The district could pursue disciplinary action towards the scholar.
