Apple has discontinued the iPod, 20 years after it was released.

The US tech large said its iconic music player has been changed by different units, making the iPod redundant.

Greg Joswiak, Apple's senior vice-president of worldwide advertising, mentioned: "In the present day, the spirit of iPod lives on.

"We've built-in an incredible music experience throughout all of our merchandise, from the iPhone to the Apple Watch to HomePod mini, and across Mac, iPad, and Apple TV.

"And Apple Music delivers industry-leading sound high quality with support for spatial audio - there is not any better strategy to get pleasure from, discover, and expertise music."

In October 2001, Steve Jobs debuted the unique iPod and it was the first MP3 participant that would maintain 1,000 songs and had a 10-hour battery life.

"With iPod, Apple has invented a complete new class of digital music participant that lets you put your whole music collection in your pocket and take heed to it wherever you go," he mentioned on the time.

"With iPod, listening to music will never be the identical again."

Comparable MP3 players released by Microsoft and Sony didn't have the same success as the iPod.

Apple has launched 5 variations of its music participant - the Basic, Contact, Shuffle, Mini and Nano.
