Apple has discontinued the iPod, 20 years after it was launched.

The US tech giant mentioned its iconic music participant has been replaced by other units, making the iPod redundant.

Greg Joswiak, Apple's senior vice-president of worldwide marketing, mentioned: "At this time, the spirit of iPod lives on.

"We've integrated an unimaginable music expertise throughout all of our merchandise, from the iPhone to the Apple Watch to HomePod mini, and throughout Mac, iPad, and Apple TV.

"And Apple Music delivers industry-leading sound high quality with help for spatial audio - there is no higher strategy to take pleasure in, discover, and experience music."

In October 2001, Steve Jobs debuted the unique iPod and it was the primary MP3 player that would maintain 1,000 songs and had a 10-hour battery life.

"With iPod, Apple has invented a whole new class of digital music player that permits you to put your complete music collection in your pocket and hearken to it wherever you go," he mentioned on the time.

"With iPod, listening to music won't ever be the identical again."

Similar MP3 players launched by Microsoft and Sony did not have the identical success because the iPod.

Apple has released five variations of its music participant - the Classic, Touch, Shuffle, Mini and Nano.

The corporate has been slowly killing its iPod range lately, with mobile phone know-how enabling clients to hearken to music services on their phones.
