Comic Dave Chappelle was attacked onstage Tuesday evening as he performed at Los Angeles' Hollywood Bowl enviornment, with videos from viewers members' cellphones shortly flooding social media and displaying a person seem to run onto the stage and tackle the comedian.

Chappelle, whose unapologetic humor has made him a lightning rod for criticism, appeared unscathed by the sudden interruption and later joked (Notice: Linked video contains harsh language including profanity) with fellow comic and actor Jamie Foxx onstage that he'd taken revenge on his attacker.

Videos posted to Twitter appeared to indicate the person who charged Chappelle being detained outdoors the venue by police and then loaded into an ambulance with visible accidents.

Witnesses mentioned — and videos appeared to point out — that the person was set upon by a number of individuals onstage immediately after he attacked Chappelle.

While the whole debacle was captured in multiple movies shot by members of the viewers, cellphone use was formally banned through the performance.  

The motivation for the preliminary assault remained unclear, and there was no speedy response from the Los Angeles Police Division to CBS Information' request for information about the incident.
