Last NYC public payphone eliminated

New York City's last bank of public payphones was removed from a road corner in Midtown.

NEW YORK - The final New York Metropolis public pay phone was eliminated on Monday morning. 

The bank of two phones was on seventh Avenue and 50th Road in Midtown Manhattan. And, as you would possibly expect in Manhattan, graffiti was scrawled on it. 

The town began removing payphones in 2015 and changing them with public Wi-Fi hotspots.

The removing marks the top of the payphone period in the city aside from some private payphones on public property and 4 everlasting full-length so-called Superman cubicles.

LinkNYC, which runs the Wi-Fi hotspots, says the community shall be expanded so as to add 5G functionality this summer season.
