Father or mother with hid weapon accidentally shoots self while at Arlington ISD faculty, police say

ARLINGTON, Texas - Arlington police mentioned Duff Elementary College was positioned on lockdown for a time Thursday after a dad or mum with a concealed weapon had his gun accidentally go off, hitting the guardian in the leg.

The school had early release and students were released at the deliberate time of 12:10 p.m.

Based on police, the father or mother, recognized as 55-year-old Anthony White, dropped his gun and by accident shot himself. His harm was not serious.

The varsity district said White was contained in the constructing, close to the foyer space, and not in the hallway near college students when the gun went off.

Police and faculty officials stated there was no threat made and the mother or father did not have "malicious intent."

No students or workers have been injured. The mum or dad was taken to an area hospital after being shot in the leg. 

Arlington Police Chief Al Jones said after White was released from the hospital, he was arrested and charged with unlawful carrying of a weapon in prohibited places and discharge of a firearm in sure municipalities.

Arlington parents mentioned their minds instantly thought of the worst once they were notified.

No dad or mum ever needs there to be a motive for them to get a text message saying their child's school is on lockdown.

But since this week's deadly capturing at Robb Elementary in Uvalde, they can not assist but assume the worst once they do.

"When I acquired the textual content message, I used to be like, ‘Oh my God, something is going to happen.’ I used to be shocked," guardian Karima Rasheed said.

Whereas most occasions, lockdowns are only drills college students have to participate in, Rasheed's son, Rami, said that realizing what happened earlier this week made this lockdown different. 

"I began seeing my classmates starting to cry and our teacher obtained a notification on their phone saying somebody was in the building," he mentioned.

Mitchell lives throughout the road from Duff Elementary. His daughters go to another Arlington college. 

"I’m terrified, completely terrified. I’ve bought twin six-year-olds that go to a different Arlington school and each time I hear there's a lockdown or a faculty shooting, my heart jumps into my throat," he stated.

Rasheed mentioned Thursday was the graduation day for sixth grade college students at Duff Elementary.

While driving her son to high school in the morning, she had a chat with him about Uvalde and what to do if one thing ever occurred at his school.

"If one thing occurred, you’ve obtained to run anyplace that’s protected and conceal," she informed her child.

Whereas some say the incident in Uvalde is just too contemporary to talk politics, Mitchell mentioned something needs to be achieved now. 

"They want to talk about it, they want to campaign on it, they wish to fundraiser on it, however they don’t want to truly move any legal guidelines and do something," he added.
