Arlington police mentioned Duff Elementary School was positioned on lockdown for a time Thursday after a guardian with a hid weapon had his gun by accident go off, hitting the mum or dad in the leg.

ARLINGTON, Texas - Arlington police said Duff Elementary School was positioned on lockdown for a time Thursday after a mother or father with a concealed weapon had his gun by accident go off, hitting the mum or dad within the leg.

The college had early release and college students had been launched at the deliberate time of 12:10 p.m.

In accordance with police, the dad or mum, recognized as 55-year-old Anthony White, dropped his gun and accidentally shot himself. His damage was not critical.

The school district said White was inside the constructing, near the lobby area, and not within the hallway near college students when the gun went off.

Police and faculty officers mentioned there was no threat made and the mum or dad didn't have "malicious intent."

No students or employees have been injured. The mother or father was taken to an space hospital after being shot in the leg. 

Arlington Police Chief Al Jones stated after White was released from the hospital, he was arrested and charged with unlawful carrying of a weapon in prohibited places and discharge of a firearm in certain municipalities.

In the two days for the reason that Uvalde mass school taking pictures, there have been 5 instances in North Texas associated to guns brought to schools or threats made.

Arlington dad and mom said their minds instantly considered the worst after they were notified.

No mum or dad ever needs there to be a purpose for them to get a textual content message saying their child's school is on lockdown.

However since this week's deadly taking pictures at Robb Elementary in Uvalde, they cannot help however assume the worst after they do.

"After I received the text message, I was like, ‘Oh my God, something is going to occur.’ I used to be shocked," mum or dad Karima Rasheed mentioned.

While most instances, lockdowns are only drills students have to take part in, Rasheed's son, Rami, said that understanding what occurred earlier this week made this lockdown totally different. 

"I started seeing my classmates starting to cry and our trainer got a notification on their phone saying someone was within the constructing," he stated.

Weapons will not be allowed on school property, and oldsters FOX 4 spoke with stated even if it was a mistake, the timing is just horrible.

"What are we going to do? They must go to high school, and clearly, statistically, it is unlikely to occur, however you never need to be the one statistic. What if it's your youngsters?" Matthew Mitchell mentioned.

Mitchell lives across the street from Duff Elementary. His daughters go to a different Arlington school. 

"I’m terrified, absolutely terrified. I’ve got twin six-year-olds that go to a unique Arlington school and every time I hear there is a lockdown or a school shooting, my coronary heart jumps into my throat," he stated.

Rasheed said Thursday was the graduation day for 6th grade students at Duff Elementary.

While driving her son to school within the morning, she had a chat with him about Uvalde and what to do if something ever happened at his school.

"If one thing happened, you’ve obtained to run anyplace that’s protected and hide," she instructed her baby.

Whereas some say the incident in Uvalde is just too fresh to speak politics, Mitchell mentioned one thing needs to be carried out now. 

"They need to speak about it, they wish to campaign on it, they need to fundraiser on it, but they don’t wish to truly cross any laws and do something," he added.
